How about dealing with grief, relationships, or feeling overlooked for a job promotion? Maybe you've experienced feelings of inadequacy or loneliness. This week, I found myself asking some of these questions as I tried to gather the strength to overcome frustration and sadness. I've been praying to God for certain things, but they haven't happened on my timeline. Therefore, I've found myself waiting for the promise.

I had to take a step back to assess my situation. I had to evaluate my behavior and actions. Am I responding from a place of victory or from a place of defeat? Am I walking in spiritual authority? I had a revelation - I was operating in my own strength. It's time to rest in the strength of God!

In Philippians 1:9, Paul talks about the inexhaustible power and stream - the enormous contribution of the Spirit that Jesus Christ wants to give you and me. This means that when we feel like we've given our best effort and we have no more energy left, and it looks like our resources are drained, Jesus Christ becomes our personal benefactor. He has an inexhaustible source of power to give us.

As women, we wear many hats and juggle several roles. We are the backbone and support of our families and communities. We're wives, mothers, leaders, managers of the family income, businesswomen, in leadership positions on our jobs, hard-working, therapists at times, psychologists, prayer warriors, girlfriends, sisters, aunties, and everyone is pulling on us. It's easy to get physically and mentally exhausted, and we can quickly burn out. However, this is not the place God intended for us to be in.

It's time to rest in the strength of God. You don't have to take on the role of superwoman when you serve a super God! He has more strength and power to give us than we could ever use. When our natural human will is too tired to keep going, and we've exhausted all our resources, let Jesus reinforce you with the new supply of the Spirit!

Create more opportunities for self-care. Be kinder to yourself and allow yourself the same grace you give to others. Open your heart to the Holy Spirit today and let Him fill you with a supply of power so vast that you can never use it all. Rest in the strength of God!

Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/71497812023-02-10T06:00:00-05:002023-10-16T10:44:57-04:00Songwriting
Writing has always been a means of therapy for me. Growing up in a small secluded area in the deep south, there wasn't many things I could get into. My parents religiously went to church for what seemed to be all day. If the church doors were opened (and they usually had a key) we were there. During the weekdays we went to school, came home and went to church. On the weekends, it was just church. I didn't go to many parties or hangout spots and I didn’t have many friends. So communication was a struggle for me; I kept everything bottled up inside. But I was in the church choir and I LOVED to sing. I jumped at every opportunity to sing. So I found myself singing and writing often. It was the only way I could remain sane from the things I faced on a daily basis. Writing and singing became my best friends. It was the only outlet I had. To this day, it is the thing that I would do three o’clock in the morning without pay. It is my passion...

As I reflect back on my childhood, I am reminded of the story of David. David grew up in his father's pasture tending to his father's sheep. That's all he did. Feed the sheep, take care of the sheep, protect the sheep. It's amazing, those same lessons he learned in his father's pasture help prepare him for his position later in life as king. David became one of the most prominent and memorable rulers of all time. He wrote almost half of the book of Psalms, a collection of poems, prayers, hymns etc. comprised together with music. This book along with the Song of Solomon does a wonderful job of capturing every emotion of humanity in its book.

One of the assignments I believe God has called me to fulfill on earth is inspiring others to walk in their God- given purpose. What better to do that than to sing the scriptures. That's why the Psalm and the Songs of Solomon is about...singing the scripture and hearing the story behind every song that is written.
Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/71497732023-02-08T06:00:00-05:002023-02-08T06:00:03-05:00Dream Again
I was out jogging at the park last weekend when I heard a gentle voice say to me, "Dream Again." You've dreamed...you've dreamed big. You've even took the steps to begin your process to "dreaming." But something happened. Something got in the way- life happened. But now it's time to dream again.

Sometimes in life things happen unexpectedly. There are all kinds of challenges we face:

an unexpected death
the loss of a relationship
financial difficulty; bills starts to pile up
receiving a bad report from the doctor

We get distracted along the way and as a result, we loose confidence. And now the zeal and passion that we once possessed concerning our dreams are now met with disappointment- not because it didn't happen but because we became vulnerable with the possibility that it could happen.

But God says it's time to dream again. Why? Because if we don't dream again and start walking in the things of God, we run the risk of aborting the destiny and the plans God has for our lives. John 10:10 says, "the devil comes but to steal, kill, and destroy." Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." In these verses, we see the plan of the enemy and the plans of the Lord- both concerning our life. But its up to us (the believer) to decide what plan we are going to carry out- God's plans or the enemy.

The fact of the matter is that life happens; we are going to encounter and be met with all kinds of challenges/situations. There are some things we will have to endure. But in enduring, we have to remember to go through the trial and hold to the promises of God. Go through the challenges and hold on to what God says.

God says,

-You are the light of the world (Matt. 5:14)

- You are the head, not the tail (Deut. 28:13)

-You're above and not beneath (Deut. 28:13)

- You are the lender, not a borrower (Deut. 28:13)

- You are more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37)

- You can do all things through Christ which gives you strength (Phil 4:13)

- You are the apple of His eye (Zech. 2:8)

- You are God's masterpiece (Eph. 2:10)

Go through whatever you are going through but hold to what God said. Dream again. It's not too late. Think about what you use to dream about, write it down, walk in faith, and believe.

Dream Again!
Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/71497692023-02-06T22:14:11-05:002023-02-06T22:14:55-05:00Let the Rejection Navigate You
Hey Family,

I recently read this post on social media that said:

"Singers, Let rejection teach you who your people are. Let it guide you toward your niche. Everybody isn’t a hater just cuz they don’t vibe with you. Some singers are pursuing a bgv or gospel path but have a voice better suited for musical theater. Some of you should be singing lead in a bluegrass corporate band, doing Motown tours on cruise ships, or heck, singing opera but you find yourself trying to fit in with what you think are the ‘cool kids’ and you’re

1. Getting clowned

2. Not making any money

To this I say:

FIND YOUR PEOPLE"

This spoke to my soul! Too often we avoid moments of rejection thinking it may confirm our feelings of inadequacy. To that I say- let the rejection navigate you to your people. To everything there's a season and to every purpose under the heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1). There’s a whole world out there that would love to receive/hear the gift you have. Sometimes your character and craft needs to be developed in order to embrace the path God has for you. Step out of your comfort zone; get out of the box!

I thank God for my rejections- though not easy, it’s necessary and life changing! Be intentional with your interactions with people. Don’t waste ANYTHING! Embrace the rejection…it’s going to open many doors for you in the future!

So I wanted to share a few behind the scenes clips and videos of The Official Clap for Me Video Shoot from July 25th. The shoot was located in Forsyth Park in Savannah, Ga. 91 degrees felt like 1000 degrees and at the beginning of the shoot it started thundering and raining. The shoot lasted all day from noon to midnight and that entire time we were shooting. We enjoyed every bit of the experience!

That day was exhilarating and full of emotions to say the least- an experience I won’t forget! I was pushed mentally, spiritually, artistically beyond my capacity. I was fortunate enough to reconnect with a high school friend, Lee Coleman of KaeCole Media. Lee is a Director, Editor and Cinematographer from Atlanta, Ga. He worked for BET, Warner Brothers, CBS, Tyler Perry, etc. and has been in the media industry for over 20 years so I was excited that he was able to shoot it. His expertise was a great asset in creating the story line and shooting for Clap for Me. I was also fortunate to have Audrey Aaron of Royal Ink, Inc. and Raynard Washington there assisting Lee every step of the way.

The first half of the shoot was shot with the Savannah Show Stoppers. Lamont Hunter and team did an EXCELLENT creating a line dance that was simple and compliments the song. We spent two weeks before the shoot perfecting the dance. His help, his humility, his support helped get me through the process an his team served as cheerleaders for me throughout the shoot. Their energy made the shoot fun.

I was also able to have community partners M.A.L.E. Dreamers, Willie Gray Harris of True Motives Podcast, and Idell Biles of Paracletos Business Network were supportive and a part of the video shoot as well.

The process in general was very challenging. The original date for the shoot was in March and it was supposed to take place in Atlanta, Ga. However when the pandemic hit and the state shut down, it seemed as if we would never shoot the video. And with the social distancing ordinance, I thought it would be difficult to get people to participate and even find a location to shoot the video. When I saw the window of opportunity, I ceased the moment. I was so happy that I did. I learned to trust the process and never give up on our dreams. With God all things are possible.

I felt God was impressing upon my heart to encourage the body of believers about speaking in faith in this season. There's so much going on in our world now and it's so important that we don't get distracted by what our natural eyes see but to speak life over situations that may look bleak in this moment. In this season, it's important that we speak what heaven is saying and that we align our words and our thoughts to what the Word of God says. Here are some points that I think can encourage you if you are in a season of despondency.

In 2018 it’s been reported there are over 7 billion people in the world. Out of 7 billion people, there are roughly 6,500 languages that are spoken in the world today. In order for people to communicate effectively, there has to be a common language spoken within cultures.

So in this season, we have to speak a common language with heaven- it's the language of faith.

Hebrews 11:1; 6 Explains what is faith.

2 Corinthians 4:13 talks about the language of faith.

God is a God of faith, and He communicates by the language of faith. He has ordained principles of faith for every child of His to operate by. There are moments in life where our emotions bring us to anger, tears, sometimes joy; however, God is not moved by emotions. Our emotions will not move the hand of God in our lives. God responds to faith. Through faith you receive His precious promises into your life. There is only one way a child of God lives and that is by faith. For without faith you cannot please God.

So in order to get through this season we gotta speak the language of heaven; it’s the language of faith- we have to live by faith

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘But the righteous man shall live by faith’ (Romans 1:17).

When we are speaking faith we can’t focus on what it looks like (expound on the time/season); it’s not focusing on our feelings but focusing on our needs

So how do we speak the language of faith? We start by searching the scriptures to find out what God has said about us; what He has spoken over lives and what He has done to affirm His love for us.

We have to begin looking at what we see with our spiritual eyes not our natural eyes- Romans 4:16-17

There are levels of faith. As we begin to walk in faith and draw closer to God, we will begin to go from faith to faith; glory to glory Romans 1:17.

In this season, be mindful of what we speak. Let's intentionally guard our hearts and regardless of what we see, speak in faith what we desire to see and watch God respond to His Word!

I, too have been struggling to some degree. But yesterday in prayer God reminded me that my resources don't override Him as being the Source. In Matthew 14:13-21, after a long day of ministry and performing miracles, Jesus' disciples were ready to send the multitudes away because in their hands, they saw ONLY two fish and five loaves of bread. But after Jesus instructed them to put it in His hands, He blessed it, broke it, and distributed it and the Bible says that the multitudes ate and were satisfied AND they had leftovers! Be encouraged in knowing that if you are a disciple of Christ and you are occupying the Kingdom until He returns that though your resources in your hands are minimum, when you put it in God's hands He will make it a miracle! And not only will you eat, not only will you be satisfied, but you will have abundance (leftovers)! Declare that! Don't allow your situation be it ministry related, finances, health, or relational, etc. to tell you otherwise. Trust God with your situation/resources. Put it in His hands knowing that He is the Source. Jesus will turn your minimal into a miracle!
Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/59479982019-11-03T06:36:34-05:002021-06-16T06:55:02-04:00You Make the Difference
This week....I felt like walking out. I felt numb, overwhelmed, inadequate, and in over my head. I cried myself to sleep and woke up worried. Every classroom teacher experiences a year or even years like this. And every good teacher over stresses about whether they are effective...It comes with the territory. I prayed and asked God for the insight to reach my kids and some encouragement. He provided.

Today, I ran into one of my former parents whose child was transferred to another class at the beginning of the school year. The parent was very reserved, so I never really said much to her; we were cordial and our conversation was limited. So when her child transferred to the other class, even though I was heartbroken, I didn't think much of it. I remember the student being unusually distraught- overcome with emotion. But again, I didn't think anything of it.

Well when I saw the parent today, I just made the comment of how proud I am of the student and how I miss her in my classroom. The parent in concurrence, tells me that at the end of the school last year, she applied and her child was accepted into one of the magnet schools or private schools (I couldn't remember which one) in the district, but her child wanted to wait to see if I was going to be her teacher for this upcoming school year. So when she found out I was her child's teacher, seeing the excitement of her child, she declined the spot. The morning she found out her child was being transferred to another class, she received another opportunity for her child to be apart of this school and declined the offer for the second time. That afternoon when the child came home from school, she learned the news of the transfer.

What parent would decline an offer for his/her child to be in a specialty school? A parent who knows that teachers are the ones who have the ability to provide his/her child with quality education, one who is firm yet loving, and one who teaches accountability and responsibility in addition to academics. Though it was challenging in the beginning, the student is thriving in fourth and doing well. She hugs me every chance she gets and it was the encouragement that I needed.

I take my job seriously. Sometimes too seriously. But it's encouraging to know it's not in vain. Your character/reputation always precede you. Proverbs 12 talks about the benefits of being a hard worker in comparison to a lazy person. A hard worker will always find a way to lead and get what he wants. If you work hard, you will get a fortune. It's important to never quit and always show yourself some compassion; self love.

Sometimes we can be our own worst critic. Every "i" wont be dotted, every "t" will not be crossed. But no matter what don't quit. In the words of Cheryl Perkins, when you want to throw your hands up and quit, throw your feet up instead and let God carry you. He sees what you need. Do your part. You make a difference and can make an impact in someone's life.
Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/58833162019-09-09T06:00:00-04:002021-07-28T01:19:08-04:00The Love Again Initiative
The Love Again Initiative was created to bring an awareness to mental health and the importance of self care/self love. With educating and providing resources to the community, we can shed light on mental illnesses and break the stigma on mental health that affects so many lives and families. Through this initiative, I want to coordinate programs/events that is geared towards mental health, provide individuals/families with incentives for making their mental health a priority, make the Love Again Vlog series more effective and reach a larger audience, and inspire others in song, "Clap for Me", a song about self love. Any donation to this initiative is greatly appreciated

I'm very passionate about mental health because I know all too well how it affects individuals and families. I simply want to dispell some of the stigmas behind mental illnesses and create a healthy dialogue about the importance of mental health from a holistic approach. You can help me by simply donating to the cause or booking Kimberly Gunn Music for your next upcoming event. Click on the link. Any donation to this initiative is greatly appreciated.

It has been SIX years.... SIX years since I released new music (not counting my Christmas single in 2015). And this one I gave it my all. I'll never forget the day I went to Audrey, my writing consultant and she challenged me to go beyond the surface level in my writing; be vulnerable enough to share my story. I cried...I cried because the scariest thing to for me to be is vulnerable. What if people don't like it? What if people reject it? What will people say if I'm opened about my struggles? What is that one thing that I need to talk about through my music that no one knows about me?

Through those vulnerable moments, Clap for Me was written. It's the anthem song for the overcomer; a celebration of life. No matter if you are an ex-convict just trying to make a fresh start in life, a single mother/father trying to make ends meet, a spouse/significant trying to get out of an abusive situation, a person trying to overcome an addiction, a student just trying to get through school.... or if you're like me and you're just thankful for a peace of mind; that you didn't decide to quit on life in the darkest moments before you were able to see a little sunshine in your now season, this song is for you! It's time out for awaiting for an applause from others... I'm gonna #CLAPFORME #CHEERS

It literally takes a COMMUNITY to get through this. We got home last night after spending a four day weekend with my cousins all at my parents house. My parents, baby sister, and nephews, showed us the greatest hospitality, giving up their beds, making sure all eleven people had warm food to eat EVERYDAY (and we ate well), and keeping us comfortable and entertained to keep our minds off the storm. Even though our circumstances were unfavorable, spending time with the family helped the time to go by.

Arrived home last night to one of our neighbors watching over our house. Before we could get out the car, he was in the driveway. While he decided to stay and ride out the storm, he also watched over our house and gave us updates throughout telling us if any damages were done to our house. Then after the storm passed, he got up some of our debris in our yard and got his blower to blow off our driveway and some of the others. Got into the house with lights and water working...thank you Jesus!

So this morning we decided to get up and do something different as well. Though we were unable to volunteer in the shelters (yet), or help out others who were affected by Hurricane Matthew, we decided to start within our own neighborhood. We noticed that some of our neighbors had debris in their yard so we decided to rake yards and help out our neighbors in need. When we did it, we noticed some of our other neighbors doing it too. Now most of the debris has been removed and our neighborhood is somewhat back to normal. Kindness goes a long way. If this experience hasn't taught me anything, it has taught me the true meaning of community...it takes a village...praying for those who were immensely affected by the storm.
Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/41236182016-04-06T15:54:53-04:002020-06-27T01:37:38-04:00Don't Let Anyone Talk You Out of Your Blessing
“It is better to trust God in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” Proverbs 118:8

I recently went through a situation in which I’d made a decision on a situation and I sought out the advice of others to receive confirmation/ guidance in this particular area. Well this one friend, though knowledgeable and helpful in this area, gave me advice (that was not so good) based upon her experience. It didn’t sit well in my spirit. I’d allowed it to plant doubt and fear in my heart. As a result, I didn’t go through with it. It was only later when an opportunity presented itself and I was denied that I realized I had allowed someone to talk me out of a blessing.

Ever went through a situation in which God was leading you to do something and you didn’t because you allowed someone to talk you out of it? “Oh, that’s not going to work? I tried it and it didn’t work. Why you doing that? That’s hard…” All of the riff raft you know you shouldn’t be listening to but because someone in whom you’ve trusted said no, you decided to value their opinion instead of trusting God.

I’ve learned a valuable lesson. Never allow someone to talk you out of your blessings. Everyone have experiences that are uniquely designed for them. That’s why it’s a personal experience. You can be in the same situation but have a different result, outcome, and perspective all because that situation is designed specifically for you. What God has for you, it’s for you. So what you may not have the credentials for that job position or you may not have the proper credit score for that new car or house but if you took the leap of faith to trust Him, God will give you favor in the situation. There is favor on your life! So make sure you trust God over the opinion of others.

Seeking out the counsel of others is always important before making a decision especially if it’s one that will alter your lifestyle or state of living. However, make sure it is godly counsel. Some people will intentionally talk you out of your blessings because they don’t want to see you do better them. They may try to plant the seeds of doubt just so they can go after the blessing instead. So use spiritual discernment when seeking out advice. God’s answer will precede His peace concerning a situation.

Most importantly, remember that the journey you take in life will be one of faith not fear; it’s a faith walk. Things we encounter in life require unwavering faith. You have to that faith that can withstand any situation, any circumstance, and in negativity that comes your way because the greater the risk, the greater the faith.

Be encouraged in knowing that the God we trust is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all we can ask or think, according to the power that works in you (Ephesians 3:20-21). No matter what obstacle comes your way, trust God. And we know that all things work together for the good of them who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). As it relates to my situation, I know the favor of God is on my life and that when one door closes another will open. I’m going to trust God continue to go through my first decision (follow my first mind) and wait for another opportunity to present itself (it will.) Next time you see say, “Trust God.”
Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/39624422015-12-13T11:26:29-05:002021-09-17T01:30:17-04:00How Can I Sing when I'm Sick?I ran across this article by Molly Shorter on www.christwillmusic.com that I found very informative because I know this situation all to well. I struggle with a lot respiratory issues, have a lot of allergies and sinus infections, and I also live in a climate that isn't always friendly to those who struggle with these ailments. Each person deals with it differently, however, because I'm now learning how to listen to my body, have a respiratory/allergy regime, I have learned how to be proactive in these situations instead of reactive. So what do you do as an artist when you are sick? Check out this article.

"What do you do when you're scheduled to sing, and you have a sore throat? Do you reschedule your date to sing, or do you try to muster through and sing anyway? What if you're scheduled to sing for an event that you can't cancel?

This is on my mind because I seem to be surrounded by sick musicians. It's flu season. And, over the past month, at least half of the singers I work with have come down with the flu or some type of upper respiratory ailment. There's more coughing and sneezing filling the stage than singing right now.

For a singer, a simple cold can put your voice out of commission. The flu or bronchitis can really mess up those vocal cords and put a halt to any special music that you've been scheduled to sing. Prevention is the best policy. Protect yourself by taking your vitamins, eating healthy, getting plenty of rest, and washing your hands often. But, what if you do catch a cold or cough, and you are scheduled to sing at an event that you can't cancel? What do you do then?

First, and most importantly, take it to the Lord. Ask for His guidance and help. Then, begin to prepare to sing. If your throat is sore or your head is stopped up, your vocal range is going to be lower than normal. Find a song with a lower key track and try it. Sing the lowest key possible. Don't attempt any high notes. Those will only result in your voice cracking or no sound at all coming out.

Also, don't try a complicated song. Look for one that has a simple melody and, the less complicated, the better. Once you have a song chosen and before you try singing, drink hot tea with honey in it. The honey will coat your throat and give temporary help so you can get through your song. Repeat this right up until the time you are scheduled to sing. If it's not possible to take a mug of hot tea on the stage with you, then have your pockets filled with cough drops to use until time to sing.

Some time ago, I had one of those upper respiratory ailments. I had been sick for almost a week. Sunday was quickly approaching; I had to sing. Saturday afternoon, I went before the Lord with my cup of hot tea in hand and presented my request before the Throne of Grace. I needed to be able to sing for church the next day. He granted my request! Praise His glorious Name! I was able to sing!

So, if you find yourself in the same situation, and you can't reschedule, give it to the Lord, choose a low-key song, grab a mug of hot tea with honey, and prepare to sing."
Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/39425072015-12-01T06:47:48-05:002022-05-11T02:23:49-04:00"Christmas Presents"For days, I've been compelled to write something about my upcoming holiday single entitled, "Christmas Presents"; its conception and how it came about, etc." Each time I would write, however, I just couldn't find the adequate words to describe the purpose in writing the song. That's until today. As I was scrolling through my timeline, I came across a post. When I read it I was like, "That's it!" It was everything I wanted to say and it confirmed everything I wanted convey in the message of "Christmas Presents". Before I share the song's conception, I want to include this excerpt of message that was posted by my friend, Melissa Polite.

"So I was driving from work this morning listening to "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and I never really paid attention to the lyrics...but in the song it speaks about repentance, accepting Jesus as your Savior, and that He is a healer. Well it got my mind going about how much we go through the emotions every year concerning Christmas. We sing the festive songs, shop & decorate, cook ect. But how can some of us believe in Jesus being born but not believe why He was born, [His cruxcifixion], and resurrection from death? We sing these songs but do we believe what we sing? We say these clichés, but are we living the life He leads? We shop, shop , shop but do we realize what CHRISTmas is really about?

The world has commercialized everything so much that there is no longer any simplicity nor any substance. Everything concerning the things of God has become shallow, callous, and meaningless to people. At one point this time of year, it was special, it meant peace, love, and unity. It has now become artificial. We have gotten soo far away from the truth that its ridiculous. We have gotten greedy and selfish as a nation. Let's get back to basics."

How profound is this statement? It's truly time to get back to the basics and put CHRIST back into Christmas. This statement alone is how I came up with the concept of "Christmas Presents".

When writing this song (thank you to Margo Valencia for the idea), I started reflecting on my childhood experiences during this time of year. It was somewhat jovial. It was the time of year in which we wrote out our Christmas lists, ensured we were on our best behavior because we wanted "Santa" to give us our desired gifs, put up our Christmas lights and Christmas tree, and my brother and I rehearsed and recited our Christmas parts and songs for the annual play. On Christmas day, my brother and I would wake, open our Christmas presents, and then my parents took us to church for the annual Christmas service. So Christmas was one of my favorite times of the year because it was one of the many memories I have of my family being together.

The music...oh the music! There were certain songs that I absolutely loved to hear. When they play on the radio, you knew that Christmas was official. Songs like Silent Night by the Temptations, This Christmas by Donny Hathaway, Merry Christmas Baby, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, etc. we heard or played throughout the day. These memories and elements is what makes "Christmas Presents" so special to me.

"Christmas Presents" has that smooth, contemporary, yet retro soul sound that will appeal to various people of all ages from all facets of life. I wanted something that was upbeat to describe this time of year. It's sound will literally make you want to dance, rock side to side, or snap your fingers to say the least. The title of the song is a play on words- Presents vs. Presence. It's message is thought provoking. I wanted to convey that after we open our presents and after the family get-Ttogethers, the true gift of Christmas is when the Father gave His Son to the world. It describes the attributes of Jesus. "He is...my love, He is...my joy. He is the light, the love, the peace. He reigns forevermore. He is Emmanuel, Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace, Holy One, that's what you are to me." The greatest gift we can receive is to open our hearts to receive the presence of God.

There's a saying that says, "We want His presence more than the presents." It is so true. While giving and receiving presents are great, it's only temporal. Next year, there will be a new Christmas list. But the presence of God is eternal. It's something that never changes. But as we continue to enter into His presence, we are forever changed. One of my favorite parts of the song says, "The gift of a King, who came to redeem, me from all the mistakes I've made, and on this holiday, the greatest gift I need, is to open my heart, and receive, Your presence."

I want to encourage you this holiday season to remember Christ in Christmas. It is my prayer that when you listen to Christmas Presents, it will give you a new or greater appreciation of who Jesus is and compel you to worship Him. Even if this time of year is extremely difficult for you. If you've experienced death during this time of year, a beloved family member or friend is gone, receive a bad diagnosis from doctor, having financial difficulty, or finding it hard to forgive someone, etc. the presence of God is awaiting you. For everything you need is in the presence of God. It is the greatest present to receive.

Pre-order your copy of "Christmas Presents" today. Bless someone with it. It is a great gift to give or receive.

Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/29001042014-04-29T22:58:27-04:002014-04-29T22:58:27-04:00Being A Voice in the WildernessI am reading the book "Never Give Up" by Joyce Myers. Myers is one of my favorite authors because her books are so practical that you are able to make application in every area of your life. Her book, "Never Give Up" is a book packed with examples of people who pursued their goals relentlessly. In the book, she talks about her challenges she overcame in life and she also profiles over fifty individuals who prevailed against all odds to hold onto their dreams/vision. One of the individuals in which she highlights in her book is Marian Anderson. Since I was little, I've always been fascinated with her story. This is why...

Marian Anderson was born in 1897, in the "Negro Quarter" of Philadephia. Her family was extremely poor and when her dad died unexpectedly when she was ten, her mother had to work dead end jobs to support Marian and her sisters. Marian's amazing singing ability made a way for her to enjoy opportunities otherwise unavailable to her. She began singing in the choir of the Union Baptist Church, where people quickly noticed the quality, range, and richness of her remarkable voice. But they also knew Marian's family could not afford formal vocal training for her, so the church sponsored a benefit concert, with ten year old Marian as the featured soloist, to pay for her voice lessons.

Her family couldn't afford piano lessons either, so she taught herself to play. When she wanted to learn how to play the violin, she took a job scrubbing steps to make money to buy her own instrument. Obviously, she was fiercely committed to her music. At one point, she went to apply for admission to a music school in Philadephia and was treated rudely by a young receptionist. When Marian expressed her desire to pursue enrollment, the young woman replied,"We don't take colored."

At the age of nineteen, Marian was introduced to well-known voice teacher Giuseppe Boghetti, who was her teacher, coach, and friend for years. As her abilities and exposure grew, she began receiving invitations to sing and even to tour. With her confidence strong and with strong supporters around her, she arranged to sing at New York's town hall in 1924. The concert was so poorly attended and so negatively reviewed that she considered abandoning music altogether.

But Marian soon bounced back. She went on to win a voice competition sponsored by the Philadephia Philharmonic Society and then to triumph over more than three hundred other contestants in the Lewisohn Stadium competition. She began touring again, and in 1928, she sang solo recital at Carnegie Hall.

In 1939, despite her remarkable accomplishments, Anderson was still denied opportunities because of racism. That year, the owners of Washington DC's Constitution Hall refused to allow her to sing because of her race. When Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of the president of the United States, heard what happened, she invited Marian to sing at the Lincoln Memorial instead. Approximately seventy-five thousand people attended that outdoor concert. That event was significant moment in the advancement of civil right in America and gave many other people who suffered from racism and injustice the courage to pursue their dreams.

Anderson went on to become the first African American to appear as a soloist at New York’s Metropolitan Opera. She also sang at inauguration ceremonies and received many prestigious awards. As her outstanding career came to a close, she launched her 1956 farewell tour with a triumph concert at a place that once refused to even allow her inside its doors- Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.

Marian Anderson is my hero and a testament that no matter what doors seem closed to you today, keep going and never give up. Perseverance, determination, and opportunities that seem impossible today will open for you tomorrow.Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/28579552014-04-10T21:10:00-04:002020-01-20T02:32:52-05:00Psalm and the Songs of Solomon (PS3)
Writing has always been a means of therapy for me. Growing up in a small secluded area in the deep south (boonies), there wasn't many things I could get into.

It's amazing, those same lessons he learned in his father's pasture help prepare him for his position later in life as king. David is one of the most prominent and memorable rulers of all time. David wrote almost half of the book of Psalms. The book of Psalms is a collection of poems, prayers, hymns etc. comprised together with music. This book along with the Song of Solomon does a wonderful job of capturing every emotion of humanity in its book.

One of the assignments I believe God has called me to fulfill on earth is encouraging others to walk in their God- given purpose. One of the saddest things for me to see is people going through identity crisis. Some people go their entire lives not knowing who they are, what they have been called to do, and walking in that calling. The saying, “if you don’t build your dream, someone will hire you to build theirs,” is true. People work their entire lives to attain wealth and success, however, they haven't scratch the surface of what they have been placed on this earth to do.

I love coming into contact with people who are passionate about what they do. That’s the essence of The Psalms and the Song of Solomon Show (PS3)- people sharing stories of how they overcame challenges and obstacles in life to walk in purpose. These are the stories of business owners, entrepreneurs, singers, musicians, authors, photographers, educators, cancer survivors, fitness trainers, fashion consultants, etc of all walks of life with a mission and purpose. I’m inspired to know so many who are taking/have taken steps of faith and are walking into their destiny.

I’m so excited about PS3 and the opportunity to share these stories to the world in hopes that it will also inspire and empower others to discover their purpose. It is my prayer that it will not only encourage but provoke people to change and walk out their assignments on earth. PS3 will launch Summer 2014!!!!Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/25918672014-04-09T22:58:29-04:002014-04-30T08:37:13-04:00Desire

"Jesus, you're my desire. I want more."

When I was studying for Masters degree in Worship Studies, one of our assignments was taking songs that we sing in our worship services and identifying the theological elements in the song; identifying the scriptural foundation for each song. That assignment changed my whole perspective in finding songs for events and worship services because I understood that taking God's people back to the Word even through song is essential. It is the only thing that will stand. Most recently, God has brought me back to this same assignment. So I've decided to periodically feature a song on a blog and identify the theological elements in that particular song. This week I've decided to start with my song, "Desire."

Psalm 27:4-6 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

In this Psalm, David prays for constant communion with God. The reflection upon every trial, every obstacle, and every challenge in his life, I believe David realizes that a pattern of staying in the presence of God consistently is the only way to live. David desired it as a good thing. When we truly desire communion with God with all diligence we will seek after it Him wholeheartedly. Moreover, David desired to attend in God's courts that he might have the pleasure of meditating upon God. David knew that staying in the presence of God is a direct correlation with knowing the beauty of the Lord. His holiness is his beauty (Ps110:3) and his goodness is his beauty (Zec. 9:17). The harmony of all his attributes is the beauty of his nature. There are benefits for dwelling in the house of the Lord, beholding the beauty of the Lord, and inquiring in his temple. In times of trouble, God's providence and protection are upon you. He won't allow you to be ashamed in front of your enemies. That is good news!

My song, "Desire" derives from a place where all I desire is more of God: His desires, statues, His promises, Him. I was in a place where I attempted to "dot every "i" and cross every "t" in various areas of my life and the more I did the more I craved HIS presence. That's what Desire is about. What I have found true and proven time again in my life is that there's nothing like the presence of God. In that place is when He speaks and show you great and mighty things. He reveals who you are and that you are an overcomer of all things. The benefits of staying in the presence of God are so rewarding. That's why I can say to my Lord "Jesus, you are my desire. I want more."

Check out "Desire" on YouTube: http://youtu.be/zdy1IQPBzi8

5:49Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/25226102014-02-04T20:26:14-05:002014-02-10T11:21:17-05:00Stellar Award WeekendRecently I had the opportunity to be a part of the pre-Stellar Award showcase. Even though it was my second time attending the show (last year I was a talent escort at the actual award show), as an independent artist I gained another experience from the event. I had a great group of singers and musicians who traveled with me to Nashville, TN. Their talent, commitment, sense of humor made it worthwhile! In addition, my amazing husbanger made sure everything from hotel accommodations, product material, and product table was professional and done in the spirit of excellence.
Our experience began with the Let's Talk Gospel's Denim and Diamond showcase at Crystal Fountain Church. This culminating event consisted of a panel discussion with some of the industry's leading radio announcers, promoters, songwriters, artist development/management, and internet radio show owners. They shared insight on the direction of the music industry, getting your music played on the radio, artist development, etc. After the panel discussion there was an indie artist showcase. During the event, indie artists had the opportunity to network, do interviews, take pictures, promote their product, fellowship, and have a good time. We had the opportunity to minister two original songs and God blessed! It was a long yet eventful day.

Saturday morning was the Radio Announcers Guild in downtown Nashville. It is the Stellar Award show for all who are apart of radio. We had the opportunity to network, pass out flyers/postcards, take pictures, and television interviews. At the Radio Announcers Guild, we had the opportunity to meet some pretty cool experience. Overall the experience was rewarding.

There were a couple of things I learned as a result of this experience. I learned the importance of investing of in yourself. This trip was an investment to my future, destiny, and vision of Kimberly Gunn Music. Anything that is worth having is worth the investment. I am a firm believer in investing in yourself and sowing into the Kingdom of God. If you invest in yourself and what God has placed in your heart, you will eventually reap what you have sown. I've learned the importance of doing everything in the spirit of excellence. Whatever we do for God should be done in a way that He’ll be pleased and that He will be glorified. I've also learned to trust what God has given you. We all have a unique function in the Kingdom of God. I've learned that my assignment is not like any other assignment nor can anyone do the assign God has given me but me. Therefore, there's no need for me to compare myself to anyone nor there's a need to seek the approval of others. Do the assignment God has called you to do. I thought it was befitting to do so. It is the eleventh month of the year. As I reflect on everything I have endured in 2013, I can say that I am grateful for all the lessons I have learned. This year there have been many triumphs and victories. My husband and I had the opportunity to venture into another area of Kimberly Gunn Music with The Love & Soul Experience- a monthly productional event in which we invite local and independent artists as well as businesses to promote and market their gifts/services in one setting. In the eight months God has allowed us to put on this event, it has been a tremendous blessing not only to us but our community, our church (in our quest to help erradicate the church debt), the artists and businesses involved, and to the Kingdom of God. There have been so many testimonies and praise reports of marriage reconciliations, spiritual depression and bondages lifted, etc. as a result of Love & Soul that we are grateful to God that He would use us to give the body of Christ in the Savannah area something fresh, relevant, and something to look forward to.

In addition to the Love & Soul Experience, we've also had the opportunity to launch our new travel service called The Love & Soul Travel Experience. It's a full traveling service in which we provide the opportunity for people to travel anywhere in the world at an affordable price. Traveling and enjoying life has been one of key components that have allowed my husband and I to enjoy a healthy and loving marriage. And because we have received many calls, text messages, and emails from people who desire to travel or come to Love & Soul, we decided to start this traveling service to meet their needs. Again we have seen God's hand in the midst of this business endeavor and how He is using us to be a blessing to others.

Contrastly, this year has also been a year of defeats. As I lay writing now, every breath I take is precious because I struggle with asthma. I struggled with asthma since a little girl. It has always been a struggle for me. There were many times throughout my childhood and adult life that I have been hospitalized due to respiratory issues. Doctors say that there's only 50% breathing passage coming through my nostrils and when there's an acute cold it's worse. That's been the case most recently because I have encountered several asthma attacks. As a psalmist and gospel artist it is taxing because in order to minister effectively, it is important to breath correctly and properly. Yet in spite of, I believe Jehovah Rophe is a Healer.

As I have seen success in business ventures, I have also seen defeat in business relationships. When God gives you a vision/dream it sometimes come with a price. I am reminded of the story of Joseph when God had given him a dream. In his desire to include the people who were the closest to him, who he thought knew his heart and that he could confide in, he made a hasty decision to share his dream with them; inner most thoughts. And though he expected his brothers to celebrate the dream with him and even support him in it, Joseph would learn a hard lifelong lesson that you can't trust everyone with the dream that God has given you. I can imagine that in those lonely moments in the pit and in God's loving sovereignty that Joesph understood that everyone isn't for you- only in God's timing that all things will be reveal. Like Joseph, in the last couple of months I have learned this challenging life lesson. I have gone through feelings of hurt, unforgiveness, bitterness, self-reflection, repentance, and forgiveness. And in those moments when I needed it the most, God's overwhelming love consumes me and brings to my rememberance who I am in Him. He constantly reminds me that He brought me out of the pits of life before, He'll bring me out again.

I am a work in progress. I have learned to trust God and trust the seeds that I sow. There will be a great harvest to reap in God's timing; season. Consistency and remaining focus is the key. I pray that as you read, that you will be inspired to remain consistent in whatever God has given you to do. Regardless of the pits of life, God will always use your pit to remind you of the promise He has made to you when He sent His son Jesus to die on the cross for you. It is there when you will begin to realize that God's love can overtake any sickness, obstacle, challenge, or trial you encounter. Just trust God!

"There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus. It's one of the very few times where I am not rushing off to work, a church service, a workshop, or a KGM event. Being a school teacher by day and a gospel artist by night sometimes get overwhelming. Therefore, this Saturday I regroup and prepare myself for the the following week.

This morning I woke up early and decided to workout. I love nature and in my town we have a walk path that extends to the main highway. I decided to take a walk. So I put on my workout clothes, got my iPod and headsets, and set out on my journey.

You see when I was "younger" I used to be really active. I was what you called a "tomboy". I was the only girl outside with the boys playing football, basketball, and climbing trees while other girls were playing with dolls. So being active was always apart of me. But the older I became, the less active I became. So anytime I get out to walk is, in my mind, an accomplishment for me:).

Mentally I set markers in my mind. I consider them to be "milestones". For example, passing the country store, milestone. Passing two subdivisions, milestone. Making it to the town's shopping plaza, milestone. Making it to the main highway...DESTINATION!!!

Occasionally, when I make it to my destination, I take a minute, catch my breath, watch traffic, etc. Then, turn around and head home.

Well today, there were a few distractions on the way to my destinations. When I set out on my journey, I noticed it was a bit cloudy. That was okay though. I was determined to make it to the highway. On the way to the destination I encountered people, men in particular, in their cars and truck drivers, honking, trying to get my attention (women especially take note). But being happy in the status I am in in life, a happily MARRIED wife, I kept walking, kept praying, and kept singing. I was determined to get to my destination. Finally, I got to the main highway. I took a minute to catch my breath, watched traffic, and headed home. On the way back home, however, it began to drizzle. I was not discouraged. I encouraged myself and remain focused at the task at hand. I was determined to get home.

It wasn't until I arrived home, that the sun came out. One of the first songs I recorded on my EP came on on my iPod. I reflected on my spiritual and musical journey. Both have been extremely hard and difficult. There were times when I got distracted. There were times when I just wanted to quit! But because of God's word and spirit in me, I am grateful to say I didn't quit because I want to get to my destination.

It's only when you get to the destination that you realized that satisfaction doesn't come in the destination but in the journey. We all have a destination. We all encounter different things on the journey. Some get to the destination quicker than others. It doesn't matter. Because the satisfaction doesn't come in the destination but in the journey (the process). Beloved, whatever marker/milestone you are in your life be it spiritual, physical, educational, musical, etc, always remember to enjoy where you are because your satisfaction comes in journey. Independent artists, don't get discouraged because you are not where you think you should be or things haven't panned out the way you have anticipated. If you remain focus, avoid distractions, and don't give up, eventually, you'll get to your destination. In the meantime, enjoy the journey!!!Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/2597632012-11-30T03:10:00-05:002022-05-17T19:40:17-04:00Tips for Indie (Independent Artists)Well it has been a while since I have posted a blog, so I have decided to encourage my indies (independent artists). An independent artist is simply an artist who independent from a major record label or company. Thanks to the internet, artists are now able to be successful in their careers without the backing of a major record company. What record labels once achieved can now be achieved through social sites like Facebook, Youtube, Reverbnation, Sonicbids, and Artistdata just to name a few. So here are a couple of tips that I have learned (and still learning) along the way that would benefit any indie artists (no matter what genre) in a successful career.

Rule #1: Get Your music right. Quality is paramount. Don’t brag about the dozen divinely-inspired songs you’re able to write in one sitting. ALL good writers/artists are capable of doing exactly that. Arrogance and ignorance can negatively affect your career.
1. When writing, be yourself!
2. Feel it, understand it, execute it well, perfect it, even if it takes you weeks. Ask yourself, “does it have the best quality I’m capable of?”
3. Know what your music means and how it adds value to the lives of its listeners. If you set out to make meaningless music, you will have a meaningless career. This doesn’t mean you can’t make “light” music.
4. Ask yourself, “how exactly does your music add value to your listener’s life?” If it doesn’t add value to your life, then it probably won’t add value to your listeners.
5. Does it entertain, uplift, empower, inspire? Or does it bore?
6. Will people travel for miles just to hear you?

Rule#2: Get your music business right. Music Art is linked to Music Business- Always has, always will be. Without the two, you would never have of any of your idols. Neglect one and the other suffers.
1. Be an idealist, but also be a pragmatist. You don’t to micromanage everything in your business. But you have to have enough vision to be able to build an organization around you and have your team members do things for you which you can’t do as well, or don’t have the time to do. You need a team– don’t do everything yourself!
2. Think in the long term first. Then medium term. Finally, in the short-term.
3. Build a complete support team (who does what, how will they be rewarded (profit shares?), etc).
4. Build honest relationships with everyone you meet.
5. Organize your company (make a budget for 1 year, keep costs down, set achievable goals, and remember that you will have to invest in your future – just decide how much).
6. Plan your first year (know what you would like to see happen and when – don’t dream: plan, use solid techniques to achieve goals). Write those goals down!
7. Prepare for success. Don’t get caught without promo materials or cds, build a great website , have (professional) business cards printed.
8. Recognize opportunities and learn the rules of the jungle – both the web and the real world. And plan who will do what.
9. Always think, “how do you and your business add value to people’s lives?”
10. Get to know your fans and followers.

Rule #3: Stick to these Do’s and Dont’s:

Don’ts
1. Don’t be a naive fool.
2. Don’t dream – plan.
3. Don’t be sloppy or lazy.
4. Don’t be impatient - you’re in this for the long haul.
5. Don’t be shallow - educate yourself.
6. Don’t be careless - be meticulous.
7. Don’t complain - ever. It just drains you and redirects your precious energy to wasteful things.
8. Don’t be long-winded and boring in your presentations (be it your music, or your business).
9. Don’t party (or overdue) too much
10. Don’t boast, over-promise, under-deliver. If you talk the talk then walk the walk.
11. Don’t push your music on people.
12. Don’t claim you’re unique or don’t fit any genre.

Do’s
1. Do enjoy the ride. Love the whole process!
2. Do focus: don’t try to be 50 different things!
3. Do know who you are as an artist – what do you sound like? What is your niche?
4. Do understand your niche thoroughly. BE your niche!
5. Do have a grand vision and an actionable plan.
6. Do learn all you need to learn about the resources available to you.
7. Do learn to leverage your talents in exchange for business deals.
8. Do make friends - always be courteous, be considerate. Always give credit to others, even when it’s less-than-deserved.
9. Do always put your best foot forward. Write good copy on your website and always offer great value.
10. Do be humble, but also supremely confident.
11. Do associate yourself with winners, people who are better than you – you can’t expect to fly with the eagles if you peck with the turkeys!
12. Do follow people who are relevant, emulate them but don’t copy.
13. Do get reviews and learn from them – accept critiques graciously and gratefully, even if they’re negative.
14. Do play live as often as possible, even for free.
15. Do look after your health!

Courtesy of Indie Artist Survival Handbook
Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/2199622012-09-16T23:20:00-04:002012-09-16T23:20:00-04:00Worship in the House: Tamela Mann's ConcertIt's the week before the concert and I am extremely anxious. This has got to go down as one of the biggest moments in my life. I have had some pivotal and significant moments, but nothing of this musical caliber has ever happened. I am opening up for one of my most favorite gospel singers in the world- Ms. Tamela Mann!!!

Tamela Mann is an American actress and gospel singer, known for her role as Cora in Tyler Perry's plays, including I Can Do Bad All By Myself, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Madea's Family Reunion, Madea's Class Reunion, Meet the Browns, and What's Done in the Dark. Mann began her career as a singer with the gospel group Kirk Franklin and the Family. Mann was a featured soloist on several tracks while with Franklin's group, including "Don't Take Your Joy Away", "Now Behold the Lamb", and "Lean on Me", the latter of which also included Mary J. Blige, Crystal Lewis, R. Kelly, and Bono. She released her own album, the Master Plan, in 2009.

Mann has also made appearances in movies such as Kingdom Come, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, and the late Whitney Houston's Sparkle. Mann recorded some songs on the soundtrack for Diary of a Mad Black Woman, including participating in the song "Father (Can You Hear Me)". Mann is the wife of David Mann, who is known for his role as "Deacon Leroy Brown" in several of Perry's plays.

I grew up singing some of her songs in church when I was little. I watched her on television. I love how God has evolved her and her husband in ministry. There relationship is beautiful!!! So I am extremely honored to open up for her. In addition to opening up for Tamela, I will also be ministering in the place where I serve and worship on every Sunday. As we say it in our hometown, "it don't get no betta than this!"

God has granted me so much favor in this season. I am a testament that when you submit to God's will and wait upon his timing, he will grant your heart's desires. In this process, there hasn't been not a want or need that God has not granted. I wanted a live sound, God blessed with a band. I wanted singers, my friends said, "Kim, we got your back." I needed a place to practice, God blessed us with Pastor friends and church members who opened their doors for us. I need a stylist, out of the nowhere, I recieved a message from an image consultant saying she just wants to be a blessing. No good thing have God withheld from me!!! And I am so grateful!!! So I'm ready! Ready for what God has in store for the women's conference, the concert, and Kimberly Gunn Music #Gensis!!!
Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/2199682012-08-20T00:15:00-04:002012-08-20T00:15:00-04:00The Timing of God
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens (Ecclesiates 3:1a)

It's the week of pre-planning. My summer has ended and I am preparing for another school year. Coming back to work is bittersweet. For one thing, I didn't expect to enter another year of teaching but the summer was so disappointing that I am ready for a change of pace; structure.

I had so many expectations for this summer. So many things that were supposed to get accomplished. So many things I put forth effort and tried to accomplish on my own but there was no results. There were many times I cried out to God to express my frustration but I kept hearing Him say, 'in my timing." This revelation became clear to me one day in Subway.

I had already ordered my sandwich and decided that I wanted some chocolate chip cookies too (and everybody KNOWS Subway has the BEST chocolate chip cookies). Unfortunately, there were no cookies. So the Sandwich Artist baked me some. As I was waiting on the cookies I decided to pay for order, select my beverage, and I waited. As I waited, I thought about process of waiting. There are two things you need in the process of waiting: patience and an expectation for a desired outcome. So as I patiently waited, I thought about the satisfaction of eating hot fresh cookies just the way I like it!

Well, the ten minutes seemed like hours! I became impatient. I was almost tempted to tell the Sandwich Artist to give me the cookies just the way they are. However, I began thinking about what happens if the cookies come out before it's time. On the outside they look done, but on the inside it's still raw, mushy, and soft. Without that time to cool, the cookies start falling apart. So I waited some more. When the process of waiting was over I was not disappointed. The cookies was exactly the way I wanted it!

That's the satisfaction we recieved when we wait on the timing of God. When we way on God to bless us the way he wants to bless, if we wait with the proper attitude and with a hopeful expectation, God will never disappoint us. He withholds no good thing from us. I'm a testament of it. Let me get back to my story.

So it's the week before the students get back to school, when I recieve a call from the Executive Pastor of Temple of Glory Community Church, Overseer Salter. She tells me that for our Women's Conference I have the opportunity of opening up for Tamela Mann, one of my favorite gospel artists of all time!!! Not only will I open up for her, but Savannah's Joy 100, the number one radio station in Savannah, will be hosting the concert and will giving my song," Hold On" a month of radio airplay. God is so good! I'm a true testament that when you wait on the timing of God and wait with the proper attitude, God will give you the desires of your heart! He does it exceedingly, abundantly, above all we can possibly ask or think. All we have to do is wait on the timing of God!!!
Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/2129252012-08-17T01:25:00-04:002012-08-17T01:25:00-04:00SparkleSparkle is a movie starring Jordin Sparks and Whitney Houston. The story plot takes place in Detroit, 1968 when the Motown sound was sweeping the nation and girl groups were popular. Over their mother’s (Whitney Houston) objections, three beautiful sisters—Delores (Tika Sumpter), Sister (Carmen Ejogo) and Sparkle (Jordin Sparks) — takes the local music scene by storm. However, their dreams are bigger than Detroit.

Their manager, Stix (Derek Luke), is just as ambitious and will do whatever it takes to make it to the big time, even if it means using the girls—and his love for Sparkle—as the foundation of a new musical empire. Behind the music and lights, the recording industry is a ruthless and unforgiving place, just as Mama had warned her girls. Sister, with her good looks and voice, is the natural headliner of the trio, yet her complicated personal life threatens to overshadow her talent. Delores has her sights set on a different kind of life outside the spotlight. And Sparkle must push past her deepest fears to fulfill her destiny. The movie was a gentle reminder of the unbreakable bonds between family, the high price of fame, and what can happen when we dare to show the world how brightly we can sparkle.

The time I heard of the movie was around the passing of the great, Whitney Houston, I knew I was going to see. However, I didn't know what to expect. But after seeing the movie, I have become more passionate about fulfilling the destiny God has for my life.

I could relate to the main character, Sparkle- we have a lot of similarities. Like Sparkle, I also lived a sheltered life- grew up in the church, my parents were devout Christians, and for the most part, majority of our time was spent either in church or school. I dealt with a lot of insecurities in my life, feeling like I was never good enough, talented enough, etc. And like Sparkle, singing played a major role in my life, I have a dream and I dare to go against the odds in order to pursue it with the help of my manager, my husband.

The movie was so captivating from beginning to end; it left me wanting to see more. The emotional moment took place after the climax of the movie. The mother (Whitney Houston) is in church singing, "His Eye is on the Sparrow." Wow! It was not a dry eye in the place (I think my husband was even crying, sshhhh).

Even though she was playing a role, it appeared at that moment it was more than just a movie to Whitney- she was singing with her heart. It took me back to the days as a child when all I was consumed with was singing like Whitney. I listened to her songs, saw on t.v. and all I wanted was to sing like her. She made singing look flawless and easy; she had the face and voice of an angel. Standing in the mirror with a comb/pencil in my hand, I was determined to sing like her. She inspired and made me want to sing. To see her singing was an emotional moment for me because it symbolized a closing of that chapter in my life. The impact she have had on my singing career is invaluable and her legacy lives on. The movie did her justice. To the late great Whitney Houston, here's to you! You have influened so many people to follow their heart and pursue their dreams. You make us Sparkle!!!Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/2129242012-07-20T01:20:00-04:002012-07-20T01:20:00-04:00What's Holding You BackThere is so much about each of us that could very well discourage us from doing any ministry work. However, GOD's concern is that we remain focused on what's important: continuing to follow His instructions in good faith that He will do what He promised. For all upcoming and emerging artists continue to perfect your craft, stay grounded, and prayful. Check this article out via movemusicgroup.com. Enjoy!!!
Figured out what’s holding you back?

I often ask artists who come to me for advice, “what’s holding you back in your music career?” Naturally, the most common answers I get to that question are: money, time, haven’t met the right person, waiting to be ‘discovered’…yada yada yada. While these may be factors to some degree – if we’re honest with ourselves, the real answer is – we are. Have we really done all we can do to set ourselves up for the next opportunity? Do we even have a vision for where we’re wanting to go (and not just ‘I wanna sell a million albums’ or ‘I wanna reach the world’)? Have we developed a business plan to help us get there? Have we sought out insight from those who have ‘been there’? Or are we simply relying on chance – assuming our talent will be enough? I can tell you with no uncertainty that there is no shortage of talent in this business. Many times those on the sidelines are more talented than those in the ‘game’. The real key is hard work. Why not invest in yourself and in your own development – rehearse relentlessly, learn how the business works, develop relationships, keep your expectations in check and most importantly, do music because you love it – not for the (potential) money. - Brandon Egerton.Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/2129182012-07-13T00:05:00-04:002017-02-01T18:49:55-05:00Have Your Way in Me"But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ ( Philippians 3:7)."

Writing was something that did not come to me easily. One of the things I abhored in grade school was writing because I frequently experienced "Writer's Block". It was so frustrating because it took me the longest time to complete an assignment. However, I had a desire to be able to articulate my thoughts in songs so prayed for it. "Have Your Way in Me" was one of the first songs I wrote after that prayer. I decided to feature that song on my EP project entitled, "Desires".

I remember writing that song in 2003 getting ready for school. Believe it or not, I was in my bathroom brushing my teeth humming when the words, "Lord, I give my all to you. Lovin me like you do...Have Your Way in Me. Lord, I take you at your word, giving my heart that's what you deserve, For you're the potter I am the clay, mold me have your way...have your way in me," came to me. At that time, I was a huge Faith Evans fan so her voice became an inspiration for the song.

During the seven year span of writing and actually recording the song, the tempo and some of the lyrics of the song have changed. However, the message is still the same. God's love for us is so insurmountable that it cannot be attained. I reflect on what He has done for me in life and He has kept me from so much, even when I made and chose the wrong (choice) path. He was so gracious to me. Because He loves me so, I don't mind surrendering to Him. Christ's love displayed on the cross of calvary is sufficient for me to say, "Lord, I surrender." He died for me so I want to live for Him.... Check out "Have Your Way in Me"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J--vdYhBtjE&feature=plcp.Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/2129232012-07-06T01:05:00-04:002012-07-06T01:05:00-04:00Hold On"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

I started writing songs when I was in college. Growing up, I experience some traumatic things in my life. Because I was a person who kept everything bottled up inside, it was hard for me to articulate to people my feelings and emotions. So I kept a prayer journal and begin writing from there. Writing became therapy for me. From those moments in prayer birthed out the songs that you hear today!

Most recently I premiered one of those songs in my first official video "Hold On." Hold On is one of the songs featured on my EP project, Desires. I wrote Hold On in 2005 while doing some housecleaning. Early in life I learned how to gain strength from the scriptures; I learned to speak the word over my life. That's how Hold On came to past. I was cleaning and singing when the old asian proverb came to me, "The race is not given to the swift nor the strong, but to the one that endureth to the end." I sung it and added Galatians 6:9 to it, "Be not weary in well doing, for you shall reap if you faint not." From there a song was born.

Hold On is comprised of several different scriptures in the Bible. They are the following:

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (Galatians 6:9).

The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him (Nahum 1:7).

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might (Ephesians 6:10).

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16)

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).

For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us (2 Corinthians 1:20)

Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you (2 Chronicles 20:17).

The central message of encouragement is conveyed throughout the song. No matter what you are going through and no matter what you maybe facing, stay encouraged, stay prayful. Know that in the midst of your troubles, God is working on your behalf. For he knows and He cares. Enjoy Hold On music video!
One of the things I've decided to do is to blog about my favorite songs. Some songs have inspired me over the years and some experiences have inspired me to write songs. Either way, songs have always played an integral part in my life because it have allowed me to identify/connect with an emotion, experience, or season I have encountered in life. I decided to start with one of my favorite hymns of all time, "Yes God is Real."

Growing up in a traditional Baptist church, devotional service was apart of our custom. Every Sunday, the deacons or deaconess would begin the service by "lining a hymn" or singing a song. I wasn't always a "fan" of devotional service (it really depend on which deacon/deaconess was singing), but there was one deaconess, one of the mothers of the church I love to hear sing. I can remember hearing the Hammond B3 organ in the background, Mother Manley, would sing "Yes God is Real." Mother Manley was a conversative and petite lady. But when she sang, she sang with so much conviction, it captivated me. The words, "There are some things, I may not know. There are some places I can't go. But I am sure of this one thing, that God is real for I can feel Him deep within," allowed me to connect with the song because in my youth, I didn't know the Bible from cover to cover (still don't). But one thing I knew... God was real in my life. This hymn is very meaningful for me it continues to remind me of how authentic Christ is in my life regardless of what I am facing.

Similarly, “Yes, God is real” expresses the surety of faith of many Christians. Kenneth Morris wrote the hymn in 1944. Diagnosed with tuberculosis, the refrain validates the reality of God’s presence “deep within” because God had cleansed Morris through his blood and has thus been “made . . . whole.” The second stanza acknowledges God’s presence in the face of persecution and abandonment. The final stanza rephrases some of the ideas of earlier ones, stressing again “God’s holy power” in ones life.

Though coming from an African-American context, the message of the song extends to others. This is Morris’ “most commercially successful composition. It has been translated into twenty-four languages and is sung all over the world.” Attached is a link of me singing "Yes God is Real." I have add a twist to the hymn. Check it out and enjoy!Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/2129162012-04-16T00:00:00-04:002012-04-16T00:00:00-04:00Gat3 Studios Charlotte, N.C.:Post RecordingMy experience in the studio this weekend was one I would never forget!!! Although it's my third project, it was my first time being in a professional Grammy Award winning studio. Gat 3 Studio's staff and service was so hospitable, warm, and encouraging every step of the way. The owner of Gat 3, Susan Tabor, is phenomenal. The vision of the studio is just awesome!!! Just a real cool laid back environment who believes in the power of music and producing it!!!

As an independent artist, it was a learning experience. It was the firsts of many: first time working with a live band, first time having background singers, first time being in a professional studio. I was a little anxious. I did not know what to expect. We reserved the studio for the entire day. We were suppose to begin our session at 9:00 a.m. However, the process of getting the band and the singers mic, and the sound check took three hours. We did not begin recording until 12:00 p.m. We managed to record all of our songs in about six hours!!! We managed to record about seven tracks. It was awesome. At times, it was overwhelming because it was such a large group of people and dealing different personalities. But overall, the end product was great!!!

What are some of the things I learned through this process?

The first thing I learned as a gospel artist is the importance of working with like-minded people. It is important to protect your vision and to protect your dreams. So surrounding yourself with people who support your vision and believe in the gift/ministry God has given you is vital in order for you to tap into your God-given potential;destiny. I was so blessed to work with a producer, David Burgest, who saw the gift that God has given me and decided to invest in it. David worked tiredlessly to make sure everything went well in the studio.

As an upcoming artist who is passionate about ministry and not just my talent, it was great to know that my producer was not only laying tracks down to my songs or making music, but had my best interest at heart, was praying for me, for project, everyone involved, and the listeners.

The second thing I learned as a gospel artist is sometimes less is more. Having less people involved on the project saves time and money. Having three professional singers instead of ten singers can determine the difference between having productivity in the studio. Avoid less distractions as a possible. Making sure that everyone who is apart are focused and serious minded is needed at all times. Having a strong support system is essential for productivity as well. The artist needs to be relaxed, comfortable, and ready to give his/her energy to the recording of the project.

It is also important as a vocalist to be conditioned and disciplined. Recording sessions are extremely different from singing at church or on stage. It requires extremely hard work and discipline.

Which leads me to the third thing I learned as an Indie gospel artist. Rest, rest, rest is extremely important before going into the studio. The week before going into the studio, your schedule should be free and clear. Vocalist should avoid dairy and caffefine products and drink lots of water. Also, vocalist should avoid talking as much as possible. Because the vocal cords are muscles, it's important that they are relaxed before putting in an eight to ten hour day in the studio. The recordings picks up everything. How you sound that day will be what people hear for years to come on your album. Rest is vital.

The fourth thing I learned is the importance of communication between the artist, producer, singers, etc. In my recording session, each section was in a different room. The lead vocalist had a room, the drummer, keyboardist, and guitarist had a room, the other instruments had their own room, and the singers had their room. Due to the location of the rooms, it was difficult for me to communicate to the singers so I had to rely upon the producer to communicate with everyone. So because everyone was following me, it was important for my signals to be clear during the recording. Communication is key. Making sure you know what you want in your songs as well as your album is also important. It avoids confusion.

The final thing I learned is that it's important that whatever you do, make sure it's done in the spirit of excellence and in a way that God is glorified. Don't wait until the album is finished to promote your album. People become more attracted to your project when they are aware of the journey from start to finish. Taking pictures, video clips, blogging, etc give people insight on what to expect. Whatever you do, do it big and unto the glory of God!!!

To sum up everything my professional recording session was a rewarding experience and i am so ready for what God has in store next!!!

~Kimberly Gunn~Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/2129152012-04-12T23:55:00-04:002012-04-12T23:55:00-04:00Gat3 Studios Charlotte, N.C.:Pre-RecordingIt's the day before my recording and I am excited!!! I have been waiting for this opportunity for a while and it is now finally here!!!. I've been working with my friend and producer, David Burgest in Charlotte, NC, for about a year now. The connection we have musically is great. There is nothing like working with someone who is a believer of Christ, believes in the gift of the artist, and seeks to produce a sound that will change and empower lives of God's people. The experience and the working relationship have been grandeur!

Since the beginning of this process, God have had his hand upon this project and have granted us (David and I) favor. We are blessed to record most of the songs on this project in a professional studio in the Grammy Award winning Gat3 Studios in Charlotte, N.C. We are working with a live band. I have some of the best "sangers" in Savannah, Ga backing me up on this project. So it's already blessed!!!

It's my third time going ino the studio. Each time I've been in the studio, it's been a learning experience. Each producer has a style of music they cater too best (regardless of what they tell you). This works well for me because I like to sing all styles of music. So on this project, there will be a diverse sound because I have worked with several producers. There will be a mixture of traditional, praise and worship, neo-gospel, and spoken word. From the youngest to the oldest people will enjoy it.Kimberly Gunntag:www.kimberlygunn.com,2005:Post/2129142012-01-01T22:50:00-05:002012-01-01T22:50:00-05:00GenesisThe term “Genesis” relates to the origin or the birth of something. Before anything was form or created, there was a genesis. Like the first book in the Bible, there was a Genesis in my life. And like Genesis, my origin begins in and with God.

As I sit pondering many things, I can't help but to reflect on my beginning. Life was okay but there were many moments in my life that I didn't know if I was going to make it. Yet, I am so grateful that through the toughest and the most heart wrenching moments in my life that God was there. God didn't let me go; He didn't give up on me- He gave me a song.

Through everything that I have been through, my heart says, "Thank You Lord," because where I have been and even where I am today is nothing compared to where I am going!!! I am reminded of the scripture 1 Cor. 2:9 states, "But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him." Great things are in store for Kimberly Gunn Music...stay tuned. This is the genesis of it all!

Just like there are great things in store for me, know there are great things in store for you too beloved. Where you have been and your present state does not determine where you are going. You are not a mistake. You have purpose and there is GREATNESS inside of you. You have the ability to set your course and determine your outcome. Change your perspective, set the course, and pursue destiny. Let's walk in the "season of the supernatural" together (my next blog). Stay bless!
